The hot weather is coming back to Bedford this weekend

The Met Office reports that heatwave-like temperatures will return to Bedford this weekend, potentially reaching as high as 27C on Sunday (July 15).

After the refreshing mild and overcast couple of days, Friday will see the mercury hit highs of 24C on Friday (July 13).

The heat will keep rising over the weekend, with highs of 26C on Saturday, before peaking on Sunday.

Despite the heat however, sunny spells will be brief, with the skies keeping their overcast outlook from today (July 11).

If you want to catch a long sunny spell, your best chance is on Saturday and Sunday morning, with sunshine forecast between 7am and 1pm on both days.

This means Bedford will have a very close feel this weekend, with humidity peaking at 85 per cent.

In the meantime though, temperatures will remain comfortable, with clouds expected for the rest of today and tomorrow.

There is also a small chance of thunderstorms in the region on Saturday night, with the possibility of tropical Storm Chris causing even more rain in the region.

The Met Office's forcast for the weekend says: "Sunny spells with a risk of heavy, thundery showers in the west Friday, and more widely Saturday. Most likely dry Sunday. It will become increasingly hot with mostly light winds."

Temperatures could climb to 27C in the Milton Keynes area this weekend

Talking about what to expect today, the weather chiefs said: "A cloudy start, but brightening up during the morning with warm sunny spells in the afternoon. Isolated light showers possible in the south in the late afternoon, but most areas staying dry. Maximum temperature 22C."

The Met Office has a similar report for tomorrow, saying: "Mostly dry with sunny spells developing through the morning. There is a risk of a few sharp showers during the afternoon, most likely in the southwest. Maximum temperature 24C."
