People arriving at Stansted Airport have been forced to wait for hours for their luggage this weekend.
Holiday-goers were expecting to sail smoothly through security to collect their bags, but something went wrong.
People took to social media to complain about the service they had received over the past couple days.
One person claimed there were huge queues at security and no staff to speak with, another claimed they had waited longer than it had taken to fly to the airport.
But why did it happen?
Baggage handlers Swissport has revealed the reason why it happened – and it is due to air traffic controll.
A Swissport spokeswoman said: “Due to an increased volume of flights, air traffic control restrictions led to a significant number of air craft arriving at Stansted off-schedule.
“Unfortunately the knock-on impact of these late arrivals led to baggage delivery delays, despite having planned for a level of off-schedule flights.
“We apologise to customers for the inconvenience and will continue to work with our airport and airline partners to provide the best possible travel experience for passengers at this busy time of year.”
This means that baggage handlers are unable to plan for when a plane may land, and this can cause hold ups.
What did Stansted say?
Stansted Airport previously said it would be organising additional staff to help the airline and handling agent teams.
A London Stansted Airport spokesman said: "We are aware that some passengers experienced delays with collecting their baggage on returning to the airport this morning (22 July).
"This is disappointing and must be extremely frustrating for people. We can only apologise on behalf of everyone at Stansted Airport.
"We have organised for additional staff to supplement the Airline and Handling Agent teams over the summer holiday period and will continue to work with all our partners to understand what is causing these recent delays and help minimise the impact on passengers."
