There are several weather warnings across the UK today

Storm Deidre

A 'danger to life' warning for deep floodwater has been issued by the Met Office.

The forecaster says homes and businesses are likely to be flooded and that fast-flowing floodwater will cause a danger to life, The Mirror reports.

There is also a "good chance some communities cut off by flooded roads" with power cuts and the loss of other services.

Winds could be strong enough to generate the fourth named storm of the season – Deirdre – although the Met Office and Met Eireann are yet to issue a title.

The amber warning for rain is in place from 1pm until 11pm today and covers the south west of Wales.

There is also yellow warnings for rain and wind, one which covers much of the south west of the UK, one for Northern Ireland and two smaller warnings in Scotland.

The full forecast online says: "A spell of heavy rain will affect southwestern parts of Wales during this afternoon and evening, bringing a further 20-40 mm of rain.

"Much of this will fall within 6-9 hours and lead to further flooding. Scattered heavy showers will follow from the west overnight."

A forecaster for the Met Office said: "Heavy rain and strong to gale force winds will spread eastwards during the afternoon, reaching central parts of England and Scotland by evening."
