Mystery surrounds the death of a young child whose body was discovered on a beach in Texas.
The boy, who is believed to be three to five years old, was found on the island city of Galveston on Friday night with no clues as to his identity.
Police have been unable to trace his parents or any family members, and no one has come forward to report a missing child.
Pending the results of a post-mortem examination, detectives are treating the death as a homicide and described it is "an extremely unusual case for Galveston Island".
In a statement, police said the circumstances "grow more and more suspicious as time goes on".
They added: "Galveston Police Department received a call from an individual stating they had found a body on the beach near the 700 block of Seawall Blvd.
"According to the caller, they were walking along the sand and observed an object near the surf.
"Upon closer inspection the caller was able to identify the object as the body of a small child."
Galveston Police Department has released a sketch of the child, who is described as around 3ft tall with a slender build, black hair, and brown eyes.
Officers searched local and national databases for reported missing persons that matched the description, but found none.
