A retail body has warned current trading levels are a "cause for concern" for stores in the run-up to Christmas, as annual growth in non-food sales hits a record low.

The British Retail Consortium's (BRC's) said its reading of 0.2% growth in non-food over the 12 months to October was the lowest since its records began.

However, other figures released on Tuesday showed there were winners and losers on the high street.

Primark's owner reported a 10% surge in like-for-like sales at the discount fashion retailer in the year to 16 September.
