A couple is having their three young children taken away from them because of their ‘open relationship’.
A family court judge ruled that the parents’ ‘dysfunctional relationship’ had contributed to their neglect of their kids, who are all under the age of five.
The children will all now be placed for adoption.
According to The Guardian, social workers from Sandwell borough council in the West Midlands applied to take the children out of the parents’ care in August. Their order was granted in October.
Officials described the couple’s relationship as ‘open’, but the parents denied this characterisation of their relationship.
In her judgment, Judge Elizabeth Williscroft said that the father would go clubbing and meet other women, while the mother dated men she met online.
‘The father had his own lifestyle outside the family home, which plainly included going clubbing until the early hours as well as being involved with other people,’ she said.
‘In respect of both parents, the court is not concerned about their private lives and how they will conduct them unless it impacts on the care of the children – which at this time was neglectful.’
She added: ‘It is plain some complete strangers have visited her house while the children were there to have sex with her.’
The father reportedly didn’t see what was worrying about strangers coming to the house to meet the mother for sex.
‘All of this must have been confusing for the children,’ she added.
