Anyone planning a wedding has to navigate the minefield of who to include in the wedding party.
And even though Meghan Markle won’t need to worry about securing a venue or a tight budget when she marries Prince Harry, her choice of bridesmaids will be under the microscope.
However, any Royal fans hoping that the Duchess of Cambridge, Harry’s sister-in-law, is named as a bridesmaid might be left disappointed.
That’s according to Royal expert and author Marlene Koenig, who said she does not expect Catherine to have a prominent role in the wedding.
It is more likely that her daughter Princess Charlotte will be a bridesmaid for her uncle’s wedding, Ms Koenig said.
She told Cosmopolitan: ‘The Duchess of Cambridge barely knows Meghan.
‘For another, she is the future queen consort when William becomes king after his father, and would unlikely be an attending person to another royal bride.’
As bridesmaids and the maid of honour are usually titles held by unmarried women, Kate could instead be Ms Markle’s matron of honour, Ms Koenig said.
But this is thought to be unlikely – the Duchess of Cambridge was not her sister Pippa’s matron of honour at her wedding in May as she did not want to upstage her.
Ms Koenig added: ‘It is very likely that Prince George and Princess Charlotte of Cambridge will be a page boy and a bridesmaid. Anyone else is a guess.’
It is thought that Ms Markle’s bridal party will look very different to the group she chose for her first wedding.
When she married Trevor Engelson in 2011, her maid of honour was childhood best friend Ninaki Priddy – but the pair have since fallen out.
