A bin lorry driver shouted ‘no no no’ after he reportedly witnessed his colleague being run over their truck.
The binman died in Springfield, Chelmsford, in Essex, this morning.
A crowd had desperately tried to revive him by giving him CPR before emergency crews arrived at 9.05am.
But it was all in vain and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
‘I heard a man screaming and shouting “no no no” and I came out and it was the driver shouting and the bin man was on the floor,’ said a resident who wanted to remain anonymous.
He added: ‘All the neighbours rushed out to help him and one gave him CPR. Someone must have called the ambulance because they all rushed to the scene.
‘There were loads of police, ambulances and an air ambulance they even had a drone in the air. I think forensics were here as well because there was an incident van here.’
Another elderly neighbour said he almost saw a young boy getting hit by a bin lorry on the same road.
They said: ‘It’s such a busy road and kids usually run out in the road.
A third resident said he was a van reversing round a cul-de-sac before the incident happened.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: ‘We are currently on scene at a fatal collision in Osea Way, Chelmsford.
‘We were called at around 9.05am to reports of a collision involving a man and a bin lorry. Sadly the man died at the scene.
‘Officers from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit are on scene and are investigating.
‘The Health and Safety Executive is also on scene as is Chelmsford City Council.’
