An officer has been injured after two police cars crashed while heading to the same emergency.

He was taken to hospital following the collision in the early hours of yesterday morning in Stretford, Greater Manchester.

A road closure was put in place shortly before 1am when the crash happened at the junction of Edge Lane and Chester Road.

It is not known where they were going to, but they are both said to have been heading to the same emergency call.

Pictures and video show the aftermath of the incident, with the cars damaged and police scrambled to the scene.

Residents described seeing the two cars amid a sea of flashing lights on the A56 as emergency services responded.

A witness said: ‘There must have been about 20 police there at one point managing traffic and blocking off the roads and roundabout.’

The incident caused delays to traffic until the scene was cleared.
