Breitbart London editor in chief Raheem Kassam has urged President Trump to not allow the “wedge” being driven between him and Breitbart chief executive Steve Bannon to distract him from the business of making America great again.

Speaking to Britain’s Sky News from Washington Thursday evening, Kassam rejected the feeling of “panic in the air” being suggested by media outlets in their blanket coverage of the relationship between President Trump and Mr Bannon, remarking that such “fallings out” happen in the boardroom as well as the Oval Office, and this episode was nothing more than the normal “swings and roundabouts of politics”.

Noting that “Mitch McConnell the majority leader is not exactly the biggest fan of Bannon and he has the President’s ear, so there are people out there who want this wedge to be driven”, Kassam urged the President to not allow a simple book to bog him down and that the whole affair would be forgotten in a matter of days.

Kassam said: “Trump’s base is reflecting [his performance in the White House] by holding up support for him, so if I had one thing to say to this president it would be, just keep doing what you’re doing and don’t get bogged down by books written by Guardian columnists, it’s just not a reliable source as far as I’m concerned… I think you’ll see this blow over in the next couple of days and it will be back to business as usual.”

Emphasising the essential unity between Trump and Bannon in their common mission, remarking that they shared “…a belief in delivering what’s best for the American people that unites all the people taking place in this conversation”, Kassam said: “Breitbart News doesn’t hide where it’s coming from on the political spectrum.

“We maintain our belief in the MAGA agenda and everything the President stood for during the campaign. I don’t think from our side of things, there is any animosity.”
