Online healthy eating store Muscle Food has recalled more than 60 of its meat products after an unannounced inspection by the Food Standards Agency.
The agency found some of the firm's burgers, steaks, joints and meatballs had incorrect use-by dates on their labels.
The food being recalled includes beefburgers, steaks, pork and venison.
The inspection was carried out on suppliers DB Foods, who own Nottingham-based Muscle Food.
The agency said it had "concerns about the procedures at DB Food for use-by dates on some products that were not compliant with legal requirements".
There was a possibility customers could accidentally eat the meat after the use-by date and could become ill, the watchdog said, although it added no-one had been reported to have fallen ill as yet.
Muscle Food sells "healthy" high-protein food online, including lean meat and vegan substitutes.
The list of products being recalled runs to six pages, and can be looked at here
The affected products were sold between January 25 and February 3 this year. If you have one of the products you should not eat them, the Food Standards Agency says.
You should contact Muscle Food directly via their website and the retailer will arrange a courier to pick the products up in exchange of a full refund.
Darren Beale, founder of Muscle Food, said in a statement online: "I wanted to firstly apologise to anybody that was affected by our recent precautionary product recall, which was on a small number of products, caused by a supplier mistake on the use by dates.
"The team and I take our responsibilities incredibly seriously; and although on a daily basis we are offered products from a variety of suppliers we vet and choose our suppliers very carefully.
"In this case our supplier was a British Retail Consortium AA rated supplier; the highest rating you can achieve in the industry, with an excellent pedigree of supplying multinational companies. The moment they realised their mistake; they informed us and we informed you.
"They have let us down; and although the Muscle Food team quality check thousands of items every day; use some of the UK’s best known suppliers and care passionately about ensuring product quality – we have let you down too, sorry."
