Two cars torched and house burnt in near-fatal arson attack

Police are appealing for witnesses after a couple were the victim of an arson attack in Great Paxton.

The fire took place at 1.40am on Monday, and is now being treating as suspicious by police.

Fire crews arrived at the scene where a car had been torched, before the fire spread to a second car, causing significant damage to the front of the couple's home.

Cambridgeshire Constabulary are looking for a black Volkswagen which was seen in the area around the time of the fire.

DC Neil Patrick said: β€œIt is believed this was a deliberate act which could have had fatal consequences.”

He added: β€œI am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity or unfamiliar people in vehicles in the area around the time of the incident.”

All persons were accounted for, and no injuries have been recorded.

Reconstruction work has already begun on the property.
