A cyclist has died after coming off his bike in Royston earlier today (May 7).
Police were called at 11.45am after a man in his 50s appeared to have come off his bicycle and was found lying in the road that runs towards Therfield, close to McDonald's on the A505, and Therfield Heath car park.
The cyclist appeared to be heading southbound along this road.
The ambulance service was called but the man was pronounced dead shortly after.
Police are now appealing for witnesses and information.
Investigating officer sergeant James Wood of the Road Policing Unit said: "Our thoughts are with the cyclist's family at this devastating time and we are currently doing all that we can to piece together the circumstances that caused him to come off his bike.
"I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time and saw anything, or who saw a cyclist travelling along the road, to please get in contact as soon as possible.
"Any information you provide could prove to be vital in helping us to get to the bottom of what happened here."
