Tesco set to open in Cambridge city centre

A new Tesco Express looks set to open in Cambridge city centre after the supermarket secured a licence to sell alcohol.

Tesco was originally denied approval to sell alcohol from 5 Christs Lane by the Cambridge City Council licensing committee on February 4.

The supermarket took the dispute to Cambridge Magistrates Court, but before the case could properly get under way, Tesco revised its intended alcohol sales hours, and the case was sent back to the council.

The previous application was rejected on the basis it would have been against the councils cumulative impact policy, which advises against having too many licensed premises in certain areas.
