Detailed plans giving the first indication of what a new 1,300-home “urban village” in east Cambridge will look like will be decided next week.
The first phase of the Wing development will see 239 homes, a nursery, retail and office space, and a centre-piece market square built on land north of Newmmarket Road.
The wider 1,300 home development already has outline planning permission, but approval of in-depth design details for the first phase will be decided on at next Wednesdays (August 21) joint development control committee.
The reserved matters planning application offers the first close-up look at the style and layout of the development which will likely reflect the larger project.
The development is a joint venture between developer Hill and the Marshall Group.
According to the original masterplan: "Wing will be a new urban village for Cambridge East.
“Wing will not be a dormitory, a housing estate or a suburb. The proposed new homes will be integrated with a significant range of community facilities and local shops.”
The Wing site is located to the north of Newmarket Road and to the south of Fen Ditton and adjacent to the Park and Ride to the east.
