Hair plopping is a social media trend that involves turning your frizzy and tired ringlets into healthy curls using a piece of cotton. Yep, that’s right – the only thing that lies between you and flawless curls is a cotton T-Shirt. The ‘plopping’ method is nothing spectacular, but it gives incredible results. Express.co.uk chatted to Elinor Davies-Farn, Founder of curly hair brand, Olew to find out how to plop your hair.

If you were blessed with curls, you need to know about the plopping method that has taken over social media for the last year or so.

Curly hair is silky smooth and controlled when wet, but much more likely to be frizzy and untamed when dry.

Plopping will ensure your curls are always frizz-free and thriving, and it doesn’t take long at all to see results.

Plopping is the technique that will ensure you have a good hair day every day and the technique is really easy and affordable.

Founder of curly hair brand Olew Elinor said: “Hair plopping is the insider secret to perfectly defined, frizz-free curls.

“When you master the technique there is no going back, it’s the way to every curly-haired girl’s dream curls.”

How to plop hair

Elinor has revealed how to plop your hair in four easy steps.

After shampooing and conditioning your hair, apply a hair oil while your hair is dripping wet.

Elinor recommends Olew’s Cleansing Shampoo, Clarifying Conditioner and Original Hair Oil.

She said: “Apply the hair oil all over your hair and then use a dime-sized amount of curl cream, such as the Olew Curl Cream, to nourish and define the curls.”

The next step is the fun part you will have seen over and over again on TikTok – it’s time to use the t-shirt.

Elinor said: “Use a long sleeve cotton t-shirt and gently scrunch curls in upward motion, you will hear a gratifying ‘squelch’ whilst doing it.”

After that, you’re going to wrap your head in the t-shirt. Elinor explained: “Place your long sleeve t-shirt out flat on a surface. Bend your head over, allowing your wet hair to cascade forward, then tilt your head so that the ends of your locks go towards the centre of the t-shirt.

“Then start the wrapping by taking the two corners of the t-shirt, wrapping them around the nape of your neck.

“Take the neckline of the t-shirt and pull it over your hair. Your hair should now be cupped inside the T-shirt and the arms should be free.

“Now, grab one arm with each hand, stand up straight, bring both T-shirt arms up and tie them together in a knot.”

How long to plop for

How long you leave your hair in the t-shirt depends on a number of factors.

Many women plop for 10 to 20 minutes and then diffuse their hair or let it air dry.

You could even leave your hair wrapped overnight and then play around with it in the morning.

Try it for yourself to see what works for you, it may take some investigating before you get the process absolutely perfect.
