Snapchat down reports are on the rise today, with tens of thousands of users of the hugely popular chat app experiencing significant service disruption today in both the UK and US.
Independent outage monitor Down Detector has recorded a massive spike in Snapchat down reports.
At the time of writing Down Detector UK has registered a peak of more than 14,000 reports with downdetector.com recording over 30,000.
According to Down Detector stats, the issues affecting users the most are problems with the Snapchat app itself, posting content and server connection.
While on Twitter Snapchat users have reported issues with snaps not sending.
One tweeted: “@snapchatsupport I logged out of my account because it was playing up chat screen wasn’t loading it was blank. Now I logged out I can’t log back in it says “ Please check your connection and try again” my connection is fine, what is going on? #snapchat #snapchatdown”.
While another posted: “Why won’t snap let me send snaps but it will let me send messages. it’s not just me it’s happening to all my friends. #snapchat”
And one added: “I think my Snapchat is broken I can’t put anything on my private story”.
Other Snapchat users have been left worried whether the latest server disruption will lead them to lose their streaks.
One tweeted: “If I lose this 4 1/2 year long streak cuz snapchat wanna be down today, I’m protesting! #snapchatdown”.
In the immediate aftermath of the issues hitting around 12pm UK time the @Snapchatsupport account was busy replying to users of the Android and iOS app that were experiencing difficulties today.
Replying to one the Snapchat Support Twitter wrote: “Thanks for letting us know, we’re looking into this!”
The @SnapchatSupport Twitter account later issued a statement on the outage, saying: “We’re aware that some Snapchatters are having issues using the app right now – hang tight, we’re looking into it!”
The latest Snapchat issues come in the wake of a huge outage last week that took Facebook, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Instagram offline for six hours.
That outage at the start of last week was the biggest outage in Facebook’s history, and was followed by another Instagram outage on Friday.
Hopefully Snapchat today won’t be down for as long as Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger were last week.
And fingers crossed the latest service issues affecting the popular selfie app won’t last as long as the previous major outage.
Over the summer Snapchat users saw the app experience a lengthy period of downtime, with problems hitting on midnight UK time at the end of the final weekend in July and continuing into the morning when users woke up.
That outage saw a bug hit which lead to the app constantly crashing on both iPhone and Android devices.
With that outage in July the lengthy Snapchat issues were finally resolved after Snap Inc rolled out a new patch.
In the aftermath of that considerable outage during the summer the Snapchat Support Twitter account offered advice on how to resolve app-breaking issues.
The account tweeted: “Over the last few days, some users have been having trouble accessing Snapchat and experiencing crashes when they open the app. We are reaching out to share suggestions in case you are experiencing issues.
